An open-source platform for Resilient Secure Digital Identities
Welcome to RECITALS
We are excited to share the first newsletter of the RECITALS project, an ambitious Horizon Europe initiative building an open-source platform for Resilient Secure Digital Identities.
RECITALS advances cutting-edge privacy-preserving technologies including cryptographic anonymous credentials, homomorphic encryption, secure multiparty computation, and differential privacy to protect personal and industrial data while ensuring secure access and full EU regulatory compliance.

RECITALS Platform Architecture
The RECITALS platform integrates state-of-the-art components across three interconnected modules:
RECITALS Core
Fundamental building blocks providing privacy-preserving operations:
Distributed Ledger – Decentralized transparent transactions with private and hybrid ledger support
Identity Lifecycle Manager – Complete identity management from provisioning to deprovisioning with self-service capabilities
Cryptography Manager – Advanced encryption including homomorphic encryption, secure MPC, zero-knowledge proofs, and verifiable credentials
Anonymization Manager – k-Anonymity, l-Diversity, t-Closeness, and differential privacy techniques
Compliance Manager – Automated GDPR, DGA, and NIS2 compliance verification using knowledge graphs
Value-Added Services
End-to-end pipelines orchestrating core components for industrial applications:
Self-Sovereign Wallet – User-centric digital identity with complete data autonomy
Privacy-Preserving Record Linkage – Secure record matching across databases without exposing sensitive data
Privacy-Preserving Federated Learning – Collaborative ML training without centralizing data
LLM-Based Interface – Natural language interaction using Retrieval Augmented Generation
explAIner Component – Transparent AI with LIME, SHAP, PDP, and ICE techniques
Privacy-Preserving Data Analytics – Extract insights while maintaining data confidentiality
Security Manager
Resilience against cyber-attacks through intelligent detection and response:
Threat Orchestration & Response – Automated response using SIGMA rules, MITRE ATT&CK framework, and CTI platforms

Real-World Validation
RECITALS validates its platform through three critical industrial use cases demonstrating practical effectiveness across diverse sectors:
Energy
Identity Management in Energy Sector
Privacy-preserving platform for identity lifecycle management and energy defaulter detection at PPC, serving ~10 million customers across Greece, North Macedonia, and Romania.
Telecommunications
Secure Access for Telecom Networks
Enhanced digital identity solution for DevOps/DevSecOps environments at Orange Romania, protecting 5G infrastructure serving 11 million customers across 38 cities.
Healthcare
Cybersecurity for Healthcare Identities
Resilient digital identity management and secure data sharing through EHDS at Hospital do Espírito Santo Évora, serving nearly 500,000 individuals in the Alentejo region.
